EMILY + MARK | THE GALLERY KC WEDDING

When it comes to referrals none are better than a sibling of a past client. There is a familiarity to it all that makes blending in and being accepted so much easier thus allowing myself to really dive into the story more undetected. See there are two important things one needs when making photographs in a documentary style. Trust and access. One can’t come without the other and when you have already worked with a family both seem to be easier. This was totally the case with Emily and her family. I had the pleasure of documenting her sister Katie’s Kansas City wedding at the Hobbs Building in 2011 and it was like no time had passed when I walked into the house last Saturday. Both Emily and Mark are not only wonderful people but their families are equally wonderful. When you feel so accepted and close to whom you are photographing everything seems to run a bit smoother and fall into place. It didn’t hurt that these two could not have had a more perfect day with clear skies and perfect temps putting all in attendance in a good mood. They got married at St. Elizabeth’s Parish in Kansas City, Missouri with their reception at The Gallery Event Space in Kansas City. Saying it was just a reception would be an understatement however. Crazy ass dance party is more like it. 🙂 Usually it is one side of the family that is crazier than most, but in this case it was like Emily and Mark’s extended families were having a legit dance off. Everywhere you looked people were loosing their minds to expert sounds of the Galaxy band from St. Louis. There were people on the ground, a bride on the stage, impromptu limbo lines, all capped off with a surprise appearance from K.C. Wolf the Kansas City Chiefs mascot. Epic night to say the least.
