I got the chance to document a special Normal Day Family session last week in Simi Valley, California for a very special family. Jeremie, the dad, is a photographer and first learned of me when he saw my class on documentary photography on Creative Live in 2014. After that it was his goal to have me out to document his family, which is always the ultimate compliment. Over the next few years to follow Jeremie and his wife Ashley, who had a daughter of their own, adopted another daughter, and were in the process of adopting a second child, 2 year old Dean. The stars aligned for me to travel to California and spend a day with this wonderful family not only photographing a Normal Day Session for them but also the adoption ceremony at the court house. It was such an amazing day with this family. They are such wonderful people and are raising 3 fantastic kids. I truly felt like one of the family. This was my first adoption I have witnessed let alone documented and I loved it. That court room was full of their closest family and friends showing support for this family and their 3 kids. It was great to be able to witness such support for what this family was doing. The world needs more people like this. The day was just as it was supposed to be. Real and honest. I only spent 8 hours of these 5 humans but feel like I have known them forever and was honored to be a part of such a special day in their lives.
