Opportunities like this do not come along very often.
The chance to be trusted with telling such a unique story while at the same time an immense responsibility to literally be a witness to one of the most memorable days in a couples life is a privilege . We do this every time we document a wedding, but this time was different. Pam and I literally were the witnesses at Caroline and Luke’s nuptials in Las Vegas.
Caroline and Luke came to us originally about documenting their reception in Kansas City. When I asked where they were getting married they informed me of their unique idea to tie the knot by themselves in Las Vegas in the most cheesy Vegas way possible. I was hooked. One thing led to another and Pam and I found ourselves in Vegas signing the marriage license as witnesses that evening in Nevada.
We had an absolute blast with these two on that Wednesday night on the strip. This was different for me as I had a interesting task of telling this story like I was not there. I wanted to show it as it would have been had they done this by themselves. I had to be the eyes for their families as no one back home would have any idea what happened that night except for 6 cookie cutter photos from the photographer and a short video of the ceremony. Those were included in the chapel’s wedding package as well as a cameo by the king himself. Elivs. What wedding in Vegas would be complete without Elvis?
To Caroline, Luke, and their families. Thanks for the opportunity.
Onto the the images and the rest of the story.
Caroline getting ready in their suite.
Meanwhile Luke had to hang out and kill a few hours in the casino as they did not want to see each other till the ceremony. Here he waits at the bell desk to pick up his tux.
Since Caroline was getting ready to in their room Luke had to get dressed in the casino bathroom.
Usually on a wedding day the bride has people to carry her bouquet, the license etc… for her. Caroline had to do it all herself including making sure she had her key.
Waiting for a taxi. They both rode in their own taxis and met at the ceremony location.
Love this shot by Pam of Luke killing some time at the ceremony location waiting for Caroline.
Caroline arrived while Luke was still in the lobby.
He then had to hide so she could get into position at the end of the aisle without them seeing each other.
Waiting for the call.
Everything was perfectly imperfect including Caroline tripping on her way down the aisle. After the ceremony the officiant was worried she would be upset about it. She said, ” Are you kidding me? It was perfect”!
Apparently Elvis had a long day. He was fighting off the yawns all night.
It all came to a close with Elvis serenading them.
This was a first. I helped make it official.
Calling home to spread the good news.
We then all went to dinner. I love this sequence as I feel this is exactly what they would have done if I were not there. Caroline shoots a photo of Luke with the champagne gift from the chapel, Luke shoots a photo of Caroline. Then the waiter shoots a photo of both of them.
With no cake cutting they decided to take their cake to go and eat it on the strip stealing a kiss here and there.
A lucky passerby gets a chance at catching the bouquet on the strip.
This photo might not seem like much to most but I find it very indicative of Caroline and Luke. They always take the stairs over the escalator. I also love how there is no one else on the stairs. Very indicative of the glutenous side of Vegas.
Time for a few portraits on the strip.
Finally a cab ride back to the hotel.
