Wow time really flies doesn’t it? Life at Wirken Photography has been a little crazy since the summer. Besides working hard documenting countless wonderful weddings for amazing clients I have been traveling to far away places teaching wedding photographers the documentary way. So it is with great pleasure that I am finally back at blogging all of these incredible weddings.
Today I am happy to tell the story of Liz and Ben and their intimate wedding in Kansas City. I loved everything about this wedding. To begin with it took place on the front lawn of Liz’s childhood home. The ceremony was on the front lawn and the reception was in the backyard. Having a wedding so close to home is always a great idea. People are more relaxed and the images will have so much more meaning for years to come. The other interesting thing about this wedding was the combination of two cultures which is always a treat. Ben is from the UK and his family and best friends made the trip across the pond for the event. Some of which have never been to the states before. It was really interesting to see how some of the English contingent reacted to some of the traditions us Americans do at weddings. Everything went flawlessly thanks to the coordination of Erin with Simple Elegance. The party was so good the cops showed up because of a noise complaint. The dj just lowered the music a bit and no one skipped a beat. Such a great night.
Onto the photos-

I was a bit obsessed with the hanging American Flag on the front porch of Liz’s parents house. So I wanted to make an image of her and the house on her wedding day that was not a portrait. Even though the ceremony was only a few steps in front of the house Liz and the bridal party rode in limos around the yard so as to make a more dramatic entrance. This image of her leaving for the ceremony with her dad was just what I was wanting.
