Kansas City Quinceañera Photographer
(in Latin America and among Latinos) a celebration of a girl’s fifteenth birthday and her transition from childhood to adulthood, typically involving a mass followed by a party.“weddings, baptisms, quinceañeras, birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays are all celebrations that bring families together”
I will be honest, when I first saw Nora’s inquiry about us documenting her Kansas City quinceañera, I had to look up what that actually was. I had heard of these celebrations many times before but did not fully understand what it was.
After reading that last line of the above definition and I met with her I was excited to witness this event. Any celebration that brings families together is something I am interested in documenting.
Moreover, the most impressive part of all of this to me was Nora. She was way more than your typical 15 year old. I was amazed that she wanted my style of photography for her party. She realized how important that last line of that definition was as much as I did. I was intrigued, honored, and excited to not witness one of these events but to be the one trusted with showing that family connection.
Naturally, Nora has an amazing family. I could not tell who was immediate family or extended. She treated cousins as siblings, aunts cried like they were her mom, and the entire room at Noah’s Event space in Overland Park was like one huge close family. It was glorious to witness.
So much excitement was shared by all. Everything from some very emotional dances with her parents to a fantastic speech by her brother. This event had it all. Happy birthday Nora and enjoy a few of my favorite images from the night.
