Carrie + Zack | Wedding

This was a wedding that I had been looking forward to for a long time. Carrie and I go way back.

I met her years ago through her good friend Morgan whose wedding we shot.  From there the relationship just bloomed.  Carrie and Morgan are terribly talented graphic artists and have helped us over the years with graphic design, including our wonderful new logo; in fact if  you go to our site you will find some of her wonderful and creative work.

Anyway,  when Zack finally popped the question we did not even hesitate. We knew that we had to shoot this wedding. Best of all the wedding did not disappoint.  Amazing couple with wonderful families.

Carrie put this wedding over the top with some of the most inventive design ideas and details I have ever seen.  It was a delight of the senses for me!

The details:

Church: Southminster Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village

Reception: The Lodge at Ironwoods in Leawood

I see a ton of dresses in my line of work and this one was just spectacular. It was so full of personality — just like Carrie.

When kids are set free down the aisle you never know what will come of it.  A walk quickly turned to a sprint which ended in a spill.

For those of you who do not know Funky Mama,  she is a cool lady that does rock-n-roll kids songs.  I was really surprised and happy to see her performing for her friend Carrie’s wedding.  She did a wicked version of Patty Griffin’s wonderful song, Heavenly Day.

This was a wonderful moment of the day.  Carrie surprised Zack with a hardcover book of everything about their relationship… up until that day.  It was a book of their entire love story.  It was astounding to me the work she put into that.   She saved evidence of everything they had done together since their first date in a shoe box under her bed.  From receipts to ticket stubs to photos, she spent hours scanning them into the computer then designing pages into the wee hours of the morning to make the book for Zack.  It was amazing.  She then gave it to him right after the ceremony.

Red and White were the colors for the day.  Carrie is obsessed with the color red.

The details of this party were just amazing and made even more so because Carrie and Zack came up with it all. It felt so quaint, like a really really nice picnic at a very large house. You will see what I mean…

So this was pretty cool.  Back at the hotel the party continued with drinks at the bar.  Well there happened to be another party going on down the hall that we all thought we should crash.  Pretty cool having two different groups of people coming together for some unexpected fun. The problem was I did not have a flash on me.  So I have to thank wedding guest Eric (of Lemon Lime Photography) for his lighting help.  Only you photogs will find this interesting I am sure so the rest of you can talk amongst yourselves.  Eric had his Canon G-9 point and shoot with him, so I had him stand where I wanted the light to come from and quickly figured out what exposure his flash from his camera would be.  I then set my camera to like a 6 or 8 second exposure.  I then would say – “one, two, three” and we would both take the picture at the same time thus using his flash built into his camera as my light.  It was really fun and we were able to make some cool images.  Thanks again Eric for the help!
