Courtney and Michael are rare. They have such an incredibly touching relationship not only with each other but with their families that I was having trouble keeping up with all the emotion that was displayed on their wedding day. I knew this one was going to be an emotionally gripping wedding when our scheduling meeting took over 3 hours. They had a lot to tell me. They even have named the meeting room in our studio “the cry room” as it seems like every time they are in there someone sheds a tear. What I loved about their wedding was how much meaning they packed into their day. It was remarkable how much thought they put into things. Even more remarkable was how unguarded and real they and their families were the entire day. It was such a joy to observe. Family history was a major (and powerful) focus for the day. For over 100 years Courtney’s family members have been married in at St Lukes Lutheran Church.
It was incredible to watch them get married in the same church as so many had before. The vibe during that ceremony was quite unlike anything I had experienced before. Emotions were running high the entire time. To complete the day they had their reception at the Hobbs building with catering by Feasts of Fancy, hands down my favorite wedding food in Kansas City. The reception was a rocking party all night thanks to the energy not only Courtney and Michael brought to the floor but everyone as well. Patti Gehring Signature Weddings was awesome at keeping the ball bouncing all day making everything seamless. The images tell the story much better than I can so sit back maybe grab a tissue and enjoy Courtney and Michael’s story. This was awesome. Courtney was escorted out of the hotel via the kitchen. On the elevator down Courtney noticed a rouge hair on her dad’s nose. Those hairs always drive her nuts so she picked it off.

Another amazing moment. Courtney decided she wanted to surprise her mom as she walked down the aisle with Courtney’s brother. Courtney’s mom and dad got married in the same church so Courtney had the musician play the same song her mom walked down the aisle to when she got married. As soon as her mom heard it she knew and hugged her daughter.

They decided to do an entire congregation unity candle. A flame was passed from both sides of the church and then each mom lite the couples candles.

Courtney had custom New Balance shoes made for her and Michael that they put on for the reception.
