Best Kansas City Wedding photos 2016 | Celebrating love in 2016

Happy 2017 from Wirken Photography! We hope your year is starting out wonderful. Ours has been a bit crazy hence this best of Kansas City wedding photos of 2016 post coming so late. But as they say better late than never. Tyler had a blast last year working with such wonderful clients. We know all photographers say they love their clients but it truly is what makes the difference for us at Wirken Photography. The trust that is given to us from our clients is paramount to making us one of the luckiest wedding photographers in Kansas City. There is simply no way Tyler could do what he does without that trust. Not only do our clients trust him to be present during sometimes intimate moments but more importantly they trust the decisions he is making on a wedding day allowing him to make the best photos possible. That relationship is crucial and we cannot thank our wonderful couples enough for allowing us to stretch our creativity and really take some risks that more often than not turn into huge rewards. With that we have painstakingly gone through all of our weddings from 2016 and are thrilled to present the rewards of all of that trust. 2016that started on Valentines day and ended on New Years Eve and included cities like Kansas City, Charlotte, Topeka, Edgerton, Kansas, Lees Summit, Brooklyn, New York, and Columbia, Missouri. Thank you from us at Wirken and here’s to 2017!                           ...
Kansas City wedding photography at the Guild | Teaser Tuesday of Michelle and AJ’s wedding in Kansas City

Kansas City wedding photography at the Guild | Teaser Tuesday of Michelle and AJ’s wedding in Kansas City

They had me at bounce house. One thing I love about my job is that even after 14 years of photographing weddings in Kansas City I can still be surprised. The last thing I expected to hear at our initial meeting for Michelle and AJ’s was how the couple planned to immediately enter a bounce house after recessing from their ceremony. Now everyone tells me they want their wedding to be fun but these two took it to a whole new level. I have never seen a Kansas City wedding with a bounce house but I loved it. It really set the tone for the night and it worked as the fun was nonstop. The Guild was hopping that night as the couple and their friends danced the night away then left on an actual school bus for the after party in Westport. Here are a few of may favorite images from the day....
Kansas City wedding photography at the Guild | Teaser Tuesday of Greg and Courtney’s Kansas City wedding

Kansas City wedding photography at the Guild | Teaser Tuesday of Greg and Courtney’s Kansas City wedding

Teaser Tuesday on a Wednesday!  Greg and Courtney’s Kansas City wedding was the perfect event to get back in the groove after a month off. I love photographing weddings at the Guild in Kansas City where they had both their ceremony and reception. This wedding had some wonderful moments, lots of meaning and the best flower girl idea ever. The couple is enjoying some time in Italy. Lets hope they enjoy a few images from their day as well. Courtney waits in the living room of Greg’s parents house while reading over her vows and for her father to arrive and take her to the ceremony.   I have been documenting weddings for 13 years and this was a first for me. Courtney asked both grandmas to be the flower girls. It was incredible.  Love this image of Courtney listening to her dad’s...
Grace & Scott |Another Kansas City Wedding at the Guild

Grace & Scott |Another Kansas City Wedding at the Guild

Grace+Scott Kansas City wedding reception- The Guild KC Kansas City wedding florist- Blue Bouquet Seems like this fall I have spent a lot of time at The Guild KC and it has quickly become one of my favorite venues in Kansas City for weddings. It was perfect for Grace and Scott’s touching wedding. It was just so wonderful watching them both enjoy the small joys of the day in a soft, sweet way. I found that it made me slow down, breathe more and take the time to watch for the subtle moments happening between Scott and Grace, but also between all the people that were important to them. For this couple they hosted both the wedding and reception at this crossroads venue. The ceremony was beautifully done in the private outdoor space behind the building and the reception followed afterwards in the wonderful vintage feel building. The ceremony and reception were nicely decorated by the created folks at Blue Bouquet.   The images:   Grace’s dad taking a quick break before all the activities begin. Grace and her brother are very close and  shares a similar sense of humor. I am obsessed with these lights in the courtyard of the Guild. It’s fun to see how many different portraits I can think of for each wedding. Some nice details at The Guild, as well as Blue Bouquet additions. Grace and her dad share a dance. The final...
Catt & Cameron | Kansas City Wedding at the Guild

Catt & Cameron | Kansas City Wedding at the Guild

When a couple decides to book with us and they say to me “You can do whatever the F&%k you want while you shoot my wedding”, I know that I am going to LOVE working with this couple. Although at times I really doubted that they meant just that, but true to their word Catt and Cam were the most laid back people and they trusted me fully to get them good images.  It does not hurt that they are a wonderful couple, have amazing friends and family and know how to throw a good party.  Great wedding located at  The Unity Plaza  and the reception at The Guild made for some awesomely composed moments with good light! My 3 favorite things! Also enjoy some amazing floral and fire pit ideas by Blue Bouquet. The images:   Usually at a wedding the guys are a bit more rowdy than the girls. Here Catt and her gals were a force to be reckoned with. The wedding day was a bit hotter than expected and they found ways to cool down down. Mother of the groom watching as her boy gets married.   Catt’s Mom walking her down the aisle. Catt’s Dad passed away before he could witness her getting married, but they still left an open seat for him. Post ceremony celebrating! Some drinks and fun at Antons Tap Room before heading to the reception. Even images of people taking a bathroom break can be compositionally pretty!  Starting out the reception with a Fireball shot is a good mood setter. The whole wedding party got into it! S’mores...
Teaser Tuesday | Kansas City wedding photography of Lauren and Nathan’s wedding

Teaser Tuesday | Kansas City wedding photography of Lauren and Nathan’s wedding

I love this photo so much. Lauren lost her dad a few years ago and got his signature tattooed on her wrist. I worked hard to make a photo of that as she was getting dressed for her wedding day. I had the pleasure of documenting Lauren and Nathan’s a week ago in Kansas City but sadly was unable to get their Teaser Tuesday images up as I was out of the country speaking and teaching in Spain. These images are worth the wait though. I loved this wedding. Lauren and Nathan are such fun to be around and have great attitudes toward life. This wedding was the perfect combo of sentimental and silly fun. Here are a few of my favorites from the day including a rule breaking treat for you all, one of my portraits.   As I said the wedding was sentimental and fun! This really sums up who Lauren is. A fast portrait in the dark at the Guild. Love how this came together.  ...
