A Kansas City Wedding Film |Holy Rosary | President Hotel

I grew up in Kansas City North and have always wanted to shoot more weddings in the Northland. Enter Kristen and Anthony, Northland natives like myself. Unfortunately Kristen and Anthony didn’t get married up north, but I did get to spend some time with Anthony as he hung out at the Brass Rail before getting ready at their home. Their wedding took place at a church I have never shot at before. I love shooting at new places and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in the Columbus Park area of Kansas City did not disappoint. The area of town it is in is charming and the people at the church were incredibly generous.     They held their reception at the Hilton President Hotel downtown and the night was rocked by the Transients. Kristen and Anthony dancing and partying with their friends had to be the best part of the day for me. Of course, the dancing is always fun, but that night it was personal and awesome. Tyler Wirken photographed the wedding and you can see his post about it here. Anything else I might say about Anthony and Kristen, he pretty much already covered! Cindy Patrick did the coordination for the...

Nothing really is as good as an adorable couple and an amazing backdrop to document them in. With their wedding at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the reception at the Hilton President Hotel in Kansas City showing the joy and happiness of Kristen and Anthony was easy. As a Kansas City documentary wedding photographer, wedding after wedding you always get the luxury of witnessing people on one of their best days.  I step back,  affect very little and enjoy the happiness of the friends and family for these couples. Kristen and Anthony just radiate the love they feel for each other. Why not, they have a love affair from when they were young! This adorable couple met and have been together since they were 14 years old. Anthony knew then that he wanted to marry Kristen. She politely declined when he proposed back then, but as you can tell she eventually changed her mind.   Dad waiting to see his daughter.   As a car guy I love Pech Limo. They always brings the cool cars! Unique view of the ceremony. You cannot help but smile when you see Kristen’s expressions throughout the day.   Short amount of time for portraits + easy going couple = cool building in sketchy neighborhood.  We all thought it was worth it though in the end. Regardless of Anthony almost getting his “Air Jordan” shoes stolen.     Possibly one of the best dad toasts ever. Here is is showing off card Kristen made him almost 21 years ago. Through his words and the fact that he saved this card all this time, really made for a special...

Allison + Kevin | A Short Kansas City Wedding Video

Allison + Kevin | A Short Kansas City Wedding Video

On a very windy day in May, Allison and Kevin found themselves at the President Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri participating in a ceremony sculpted by Allison. The President and the florist were spectacular as usual, but what I found most interesting about this ceremony was that Allison programmed it herself. She brought in a friend to administer the vows, and decided that the readings would be two poems of which I greatly enjoyed listening to while editing. It is pretty obvious after watching the video that Allison, Kevin, and their friends like to have fun. It is also obvious that they are serious when they want to be. But my favorite moment is when getting set up for posed shots, Allison’s veil was ripped away by the wind to a nearby parking lot. This image from the video makes me smile when I see it. Allison is obviously shocked that her veil decided to become an airplane, and Kevin, seeing that I was shooting them decides to embrace the wind for an impromptu Zoolander...

Sam + Scott | Wedding photography at the President Hotel in Kansas City

This job never gets boring.  Even though I shoot in the same venues, the same list of characters, and the same overall time line of events, each wedding I photograph in Kansas City is 100% totally unique. There has been no better example of this than Sam and Scott’s wedding at the President Hotel.  I should have seen this coming when I did their engagement session and got cow poop on my pants.  What I love about Sam and Scott and their families is that they are who they are with no regrets. It was fascinating to witness this event.  On one hand you had this perfectly elegant wedding at the President Hotel that dawned incredible floral arrangements by Blue Bouguet and on the other hand you had a DJ banging out dance club hits and dinner menus getting caught on fire.  It was awesome. What I love about this job is that no matter if a wedding is in the same building as the one before it is the people and the moments that set each one a part.  Sam and Scott I said this to you at your viewing party and I will say it again, thanks for being you! The info- Ceremony and Reception- The President Hotel Florist – Blue Bouquet   You got to see Brandon’s awesome short film a while back now you get to see my photos- Sam’s toes. The eyelashes require a steady hand. Love this image of the girls getting ready. They hung the dress in a great spot. Trying to make some after thought adjustments to the dress. The garter...
Marlys + Matt | Wedding

Marlys + Matt | Wedding

Family bond.  That is what comes to mind when I think of Marlys and Matt and their wedding day.  I have felt that from day one with these two.  Marlys had a perfect attitude towards this wedding from the beginning.  Basically she just let others do most of the work and allowed herself to be surprised and put faith in serendipity.  It paid off.  Their wedding was a seemingly stress free roll with the punches day that everyone enjoyed including me.  What I enjoyed most was being able to witness such great family dynamics.  I was able to see how close her and her parents were during the planning of the wedding but got a little cherry on top when I was able to witness and document the wonderful connection of  Marlys and Matt’s siblings the day of the event.  All of them were wonderful to photograph.  Marlys and her two brothers and Matt and his three brothers provided a day full of laughter.  It was an honor and joy to document.  I feel like I really got to know these two and got a window into their lives from the engagement session done in the same neighborhood I grew up in that they now live in, to a bridal session with Marlys.   They did not disappoint being so welcoming and enjoyable every step of the way.  Thank you guys for everything. Love this moment.  Marlys’ brothers came...
