Wedding at Pennway Place, Kansas City

Wedding at Pennway Place, Kansas City

On the way to her wedding ceremony, Maggie was telling her dad of her worst wedding nightmare. She said she woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavy and hoping it was just that, a nightmare. Here it was her actual wedding day and so far everything was damn near perfect. She was on her way to her Kansas City wedding ceremony where she would marry Ben at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The sun was shining the weather was perfect and she was ready, but as I sat in the back seat of that car as she was telling her story I wondered if she might still be a bit worried her nightmare would come true. We would have to see what the day brought and if her Kansas City wedding reception at Pennway Place  would go as planned. Being a wedding photographer in Kansas City for the past 14 years I have seen and heard of it all, so I was hoping for her sake all would go according to plan. Her nightmare, the one that startled her awake that night, was that everyone left the reception at around 9:00pm and her and Ben were the only ones left standing in the middle of the dance floor puzzled with what to do next. Thankfully, that could not have been any further from what actually happened on her wedding day. Thanks to the help of one of my favorite bands in Kansas City, Twice on Sunday. In fact the contrary actually on Saturday. Maggie and Ben decided to leave before the party was even over! That dance floor...

Wedding Video at the Grand Ballroom in Kansas City

The Kansas City wedding film of Brooke and Nate is one to remember. I often find it hard to make a brief wedding film from a lengthy Jewish wedding celebration. The Jewish wedding tradition has so many things going on; some of them take very little time (like the breaking of the Challah bread and blessing), whereas others can take a lot (for example a Tish). The wedding of Brooke and Nate was no exception. It had all of that and more set against the backdrop of one of Kansas Cities biggest wedding venues, the Grand Ballroom. Together with their wedding planner, none other than the amazing Ellyn Bold, Brooke, Nate and their loved ones dove into this event feet first. The result was one of the most extravagant wedding celebrations I witnessed in Kansas City last year.     The wedding was designed and coordinated by Ellyn Bold who added her amazing flare to the day, bringing on board amazing vendors such as Studio Dan Meiners for the floral and decorations, Party on the Moon for the music, and K-Dog for the photography.  ...

Amy + Jon | Kansas City wedding photography at the Downtown Library

This is a very bitter sweet blog post for me to write. It is sweet cause I loved everything about this wedding.  It is bitter because it is the last wedding I will photograph with the Shaw family. Amy was the last of three daughters that I have had the privilege to document on their wedding day. I am pretty sure it was close to 8 or 9 years ago when I photographed the first one. I have always felt like a part of the family so it was quite a special day for me as well. The bonus was meeting Jon and his family and how well him and Amy mesh as a couple. Both of them come from such loving families and it showed throughout the night. Never was there a dull moment. One moment everyone is crying and the next they are going crazy on the dance floor.   I can speak for hours on what this wedding and what this family means to me but I would rather let the photos do the talking. Thank you Amy and Jon for letting me be there to document such and epic event and to the Shaw family for always making me feel like I was one of you.
