Wedding at Pennway Place, Kansas City

Wedding at Pennway Place, Kansas City

On the way to her wedding ceremony, Maggie was telling her dad of her worst wedding nightmare. She said she woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavy and hoping it was just that, a nightmare. Here it was her actual wedding day and so far everything was damn near perfect. She was on her way to her Kansas City wedding ceremony where she would marry Ben at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The sun was shining the weather was perfect and she was ready, but as I sat in the back seat of that car as she was telling her story I wondered if she might still be a bit worried her nightmare would come true. We would have to see what the day brought and if her Kansas City wedding reception at Pennway Place  would go as planned. Being a wedding photographer in Kansas City for the past 14 years I have seen and heard of it all, so I was hoping for her sake all would go according to plan. Her nightmare, the one that startled her awake that night, was that everyone left the reception at around 9:00pm and her and Ben were the only ones left standing in the middle of the dance floor puzzled with what to do next. Thankfully, that could not have been any further from what actually happened on her wedding day. Thanks to the help of one of my favorite bands in Kansas City, Twice on Sunday. In fact the contrary actually on Saturday. Maggie and Ben decided to leave before the party was even over! That dance floor...

Wedding photography at the Intercontinental Hotel | Kansas City

Wedding photography at the Intercontinental Hotel | Kansas City

Teaser Tuesday time for one of the most energetic couples I have ever met. Jenny and Jon got married on Sunday at the Intercontinental Hotel on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO. They had a beautiful wedding that was designed and coordinated by Michael Nolte of Nolte’s Bridal that what was jam packed with many unique aspects that I have never seen or experienced before while witnessing weddings at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. I have been a wedding photographer at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kansas City for over 13 years and I have never seen the ceiling made to resemble clouds but I loved it. That was just one of the many things Jenny and Jon did to make their Kansas City wedding and reception one to remember. They had it all including french fries and tater tots as a late night snack for all of their wedding quests to enjoy. It was such a great wedding reception idea to compliment all the other crazy wedding reception ideas they did including a flash mob and a first dance under the clouds. Enjoy a few of my favorite images from the day. I love this image of Jon’s grandmother while she was waiting for the ceremony to start. Epic first dance under the clouds.  Jenny and her dad share a moment during a group dance at the reception at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kansas City.  Perhaps my favorite moment of the day. Upon entering their hotel room after their wedding reception Jenny and Jon went out on the balcony and shouted-“we just got married” then...
Kansas City New Years Eve wedding photography at the Midland Theater | Teaser Tuesday of Hailee and Tiffany

Kansas City New Years Eve wedding photography at the Midland Theater | Teaser Tuesday of Hailee and Tiffany

I have been patiently, or not so patiently, waiting to post these images from Hailee and Tiffany’s New Years Eve wedding in Kansas City at the Midland Theater. This wedding was a first on many levels for me. Most importantly it was my first time being a same sex wedding photographer. It was also the first time photographing a wedding at the Midland Theater in Kansas City. I loved every minute of witnessing these two girls commit to each other. Wirken Photography has had the privilege of documenting all of Hailee’s sibling’s weddings so it was an honor to be with this family again for the last child to tie the knot and they went out with a bang! This wedding was so full of love I am pretty sure that theater was about to burst. There was lots of talk about #lovewins that night and I can certainly attest to the truth of that statement. Love most certainly won at the Midland Theater in Kansas City on New Years Eve. No doubt. So please sit back and enjoy what I and Brandon Parigo witnessed on this fine night in December. What a perfect way to round out 2015. Here are a few of my favorite images from the night including a special teaser video from Brandon. Enjoy! Wonderful moment while Hailee and Tiffany were listening to their friend do a reading at the ceremony. Hailee surprised Tiffany with a celebrity impersonator drag show at the reception. Here they are shaking it off to Taylor Swift.    The end of the night back at their loft sharing a moment...
Wedding at Schwinn Produce Farm, Leavenworth, Kansas | Teaser Tuesday of Stephanie and Josh

Wedding at Schwinn Produce Farm, Leavenworth, Kansas | Teaser Tuesday of Stephanie and Josh

I had a great time photographing Stephanie and Josh’s Leavenworth Kansas wedding at the Schwinn Produce Farm. It was my first time at this awesome venue and what a perfect day to experience it all. The weather was postcard fall weather with perfect skies, amazing golden light, and a sunset to end all sunsets. The night was complete with the reception in the Schwinn Produce Farm Barn designed and coordinated by Mike Nolte of Nolte’s bridal. This laid back wedding was exactly how it should be. Enjoy a few of my favorite images from the day. They always say photograph what you value. I always seem to gravitate to dad and daughter moments. Wonder if it is the fact that I don’t have a daughter of my own. Who knows but these moments always get to me. Stephanie’s dad wipes tears upon seeing her in her dress. Getting announced into the reception.  This was my favorite moment of the night. The crowd has dwindled down to just the couples closes friends and they shared a final dance and hug as Journey’s “Don’t stop believing” played and the Barn staff worked to clear the...

Kansas City wedding at the Hobbs building | Teaser Tuesday of Kate and Chris

It’s Tuesday and it’s time to celebrate Kate and Chris with wedding photography in Kansas City of their nuptials at the Hobbs building on Saturday. These two could not be nicer people and could not nicer families. It was an honor to witness. The happy couple is now on their honeymoon so hopefully they enjoy a few of my favorite images from their big day. Love this moment as Kate’s best friend from high school sneaks a peak as Kate’s mom and sister help her into her dress. Perhaps the most emotional walk down the aisle I have ever witnessed. Kate’s dad has a bit of trouble walking but with the help of his daughter and a cane they both made it down the aisle. Awesome....
