Kristina + Jerod | A Lawrence Kansas Documentary Wedding Moment

Kristina + Jerod | A Lawrence Kansas Documentary Wedding Moment

Sometimes my wedding videography clients book me, and then because of budget or just uncertainty about what they want, they purchase more films of their wedding later on down the road. I try to keep my pricing as flexible as possible for this very reason. You simply cannot always predict prior to the wedding what you will want to remember the day with, be it a short film or involved documentary. Back in 2013, Kristina and Jerod were wed. Soon after, I delivered them a short film of their wedding (you can see it by clicking here!). They knew that they would eventually want one of my wedding documentary films, so we conducted interviews of them and than archived the footage until the right time for them and their budget. The time for their documentary film is now and I could not be happier. This week marks their three year wedding anniversary, and to celebrate I thought I’d post a little teaser from their film. Sit back and enjoy a couple of minutes of Kristina and Jerod during their favorite moment at their wedding reception....
An Adirondacks Wedding Video | Kate and Endel

An Adirondacks Wedding Video | Kate and Endel

I love destination weddings. There is something intimate and awe inspiring about the choice to get married in a location far from home. This intimacy makes the couple often more open and accepting to my capture of their event. I’m a personal documentary wedding video shooter. When you hire me, you get someone who is dead set on spending all the time I can focusing on capturing who you are more than where you are. Every once in awhile a couple comes along and views my work and their destination wedding through the same lens that I do. That where they are is personal, intimate and isn’t the focus of their day. Kate and Endel are one of those couples. They brought me to Camp Topridge in the Adirondacks of New York. Kate and her family have been visiting the private owned camp since she was a child. It is a magical place full of whimsy and wonder. It took my breath away at times and is the perfect setting for a wedding. Even more important it is the perfect place for Kate and Endel’s wedding. It was really hard to rip my mind away from the majesty of the place, but my job wasn’t to make a documentary about Camp Topridge. My job was to show the love, faith and connection that Kate and Endel have for each other, their family and their friends. The wedding was beautifully planned by Kate and her mother Annie with Cindy Byno from Northwood Events.Kris from Trillium Florist provided all the arrangements, and Mazzone Catering the food. The reception was driven by...
Weston Red Barn Farm Wedding | Kathryn and Robert

Weston Red Barn Farm Wedding | Kathryn and Robert

On what felt like one of the hottest days of the summer, we set out to document Kathryn and Roberts wedding at the Weston Red Barn Farm. I spent the morning at the home of Kathryn’s parents, but the minute I arrived at the farm I was hot, real hot. Yet, that didn’t matter. Within a few moments, all I could see before my camera was the love and affection that Robert and Kathryn had for each other, as well as the care they took in making their wedding day all about who they are. The heat didn’t matter– in fact, it almost made it feel more real, more like family. From the way that they made their ceremony include the guests by welcoming them, talking to them and having them all sing together, to the way that most of the reception was lead by a jam session of their friends, the day really was about them.     The wedding day was photographed by myself and my wife, the lovely Nicole from Parigo Studios. The table setting and drapery were provided by Vintage Rentals KC, The Rub BBQ provided the food, Sugar and Spice in Parkville made the berry cake, and after the jam sessions 2 Proud 2 Beg provided the grooves for the rest of the night. The honor of the flowers and expert coordination of the day went to Kellie Engel of Bella Chic Floral. She pulled it off...

Kansas City Wedding photography at the Hobbs | Teaser Tuesday of Alisa and Bill

You know what the great thing about being a wedding photographer in Kansas City is? You seriously never know what you are going to get. I mean I have been providing wedding photography in Kansas City to couples for over 13 years and have photographed to many weddings at the Hobbs building to count, but yet I still get surprised each time. Alisa and Bill made that happen again for me this past Saturday. They brought such a great energy to the day and never stopped even after 12 plus hours. It was infectious. Enjoy a few of my favorite images of the day as well as a super special Teaser Tuesday treat. Our very own Kansas City wedding videographer Brandon¬† of Wirken Films captured that infectious spirit perfectly and shared with us a little teaser video as well. Scroll down to watch how cute these two are.   Alisa and Bill share a moment in a back room of the church minutes after their ceremony. ¬† A very stylish cake cutting. Brandon’s clip of Alisa’s and Bill’s awesome entrance into their reception at the Hobb’s...
A Kansas City Wedding Film |Holy Rosary | President Hotel

A Kansas City Wedding Film |Holy Rosary | President Hotel

I grew up in Kansas City North and have always wanted to shoot more weddings in the Northland. Enter Kristen and Anthony, Northland natives like myself. Unfortunately Kristen and Anthony didn’t get married up north, but I did get to spend some time with Anthony as he hung out at the Brass Rail before getting ready at their home. Their wedding took place at a church I have never shot at before. I love shooting at new places and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in the Columbus Park area of Kansas City did not disappoint. The area of town it is in is charming and the people at the church were incredibly generous.     They held their reception at the Hilton President Hotel downtown and the night was rocked by the Transients. Kristen and Anthony dancing and partying with their friends had to be the best part of the day for me. Of course, the dancing is always fun, but that night it was personal and awesome. Tyler Wirken photographed the wedding and you can see his post about it here. Anything else I might say about Anthony and Kristen, he pretty much already covered! Cindy Patrick did the coordination for the...
Topeka Kansas Backyard Wedding Film

Topeka Kansas Backyard Wedding Film

One of the most important things when making a good wedding film is understanding where my clients come from when deciding to get married, designing their wedding and booking me. I take in what they tell me about themselves and the choices they have made for their day, and then filter it through my understanding of life, weddings and film making. Then I produce a piece that is both of ours– about them but with my sensibility. It can be a challenge, but it always ends up unique and interesting.     Leah and Aaron had me hooked the moment they told me they were getting married in the back yard of Leah’s childhood home in Topeka Kansas. Often times making your wedding more meaningful can be done by simply going home. Their love of nature, their families, and their dog was illustrated in every detail of their wedding day. They complimented each other at every turn. Their comfort and enthusiasm with one another was infectious. I also felt at home with them that day. That comfort and trust between myself and my clients allows makes for a dynamic film, and that is exactly what we...
